Awesome thanks Mark. Chasing electrical gremlins in my dad's truck and it's driving me nuts.

I got my hopes up too high Mark, those grounds apparently aren't the problem.

It's a Chevrolet.

You'll be going down the road and all the gauges will die, and the ABS light, brake light, and air bag light come on. If I remember correctly, I lose power to the OBD port too. A few minutes later, everything will come back up as normal. Sometimes it seems like it happens when you hit a bump but sometimes it just happens when you are going down a nice smooth road. I've been able to make it happen a few times by slamming a door or the hood but can't do it consistently. I've pulled every fuse in the truck and can't recreate the issue that way.

The worst part is if whatever causes this issue happens when the truck is off, it won't start or even turn over.

Mark looked through the wiring diagram and found two banks of grounds that all run together under the hood that seem to be a common point of electrical gremlins. I cut them out and replaced them with a bunch of ring terminals that I screwed down to the inner fenders. I drove like 60 miles yesterday without an issue and thought maybe that was the problem, but the truck was acting up this morning.

Had a guy that the same thing was happening to his. A wire was grounding out somewhere on the body. I will ask him the next time I see him and find out where it was. Dealer spent 4 weeks looking for it.

Driver side inner fender was grounding out the cables up near the battery. May not be you problem but worth a check.

That was good info, I found a bunch of issues with that harness in my research, he bypassed the plug and still has issues
